Headwaters Corvette Club is a social club dedicated to enjoying the Corvette experience with other Corvette owners. We are located in Northcentral Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We meet monthly at a restaurant or supper club enjoying various localities with our members.
We also regularly conduct an annual Spring and Fall tour lasting 2 - 3 days touring to a selected destination, as well as occasional daily or weekend events including car shows and other activities.
The Headwaters Corvette Club was formed in 2000 by 4 couples that owned Corvettes that were interested in forming a club. One of the couples owned a supper club in Conover (which is near the headwaters of the Wisconsin River), so the group met there and the club was born. The club grew by word of mouth whenever one of the group saw someone driving a Corvette. From those meager beginnings, the club has grown to approximately 90 members and 60 cars with members of all ages and walks of life. The one thing they have in common is a good time with friends and a Corvette, America's true sports car.
The first two 1953 production corvettes were completed June 30, 1953 in Flint Michigan. The 1953 factory wasn't a factory at all, but a temporary pilot assembly facility in the customer delivery garage, an old building on Van Slyke Avenue. By year's end, 300 of the 1953 model Corvettes were built, much by hand, as production processes were developed for assembling the Corvette's revolutionary fiberglass body. All were powered by a 235 cu. in. 150 hp. 6 cylinder engine with a Powerglide two speed automatic transmission. The base price was $3,498.00 (Courtesy of Mike Antonick)
